Condolences
Our Deepest Sympathy to all the family.
I am a volunteer at the Heritage Lodge in VK Hill and I met Mr. Landriault and Doris there. I had a brief but interesting conversation with Vic about building tunnels under water and he was polite and friendly. My condolences and prayers to the family at this time of loss.
Our sincere condolences to the Landriault family on the loss of your Dad. May your many memories of him bring you comfort!

Michelle, I was sorry to read about the death of your dad in the Ottawa Citizen. Now I know where you get your get-up-and-go. Please convey my sincere condolences to your family. Sincerely, Robbie Lawford
As the much littler brother of Vic's wife Doris, my strongest first memory of Vic is when he and Doris visited my family in Calgary in the late '50s, early 60s, and Vic ate 6 cobs of corn. As a relatively young person, this struck me as a very interesting and extraordinary thing to do. From that point on, Vic was always a rock star to me. Fast forward to the early '70s when I was attending university in eastern Canada, and I would visit Doris and Vic in Pointe Claire outside Montreal. These were wonderful, relaxing weekends away from the stress of university life, punctuated by frequent trips to The Forum, Parc Jarry and the Place des Arts. Once in the '80s, Doris and Vic visited me, my wife and our children in northern Virginia, when Vic was on his way to a business meeting in New York. Vic spent most of the visit installing shutters in our kitchen, during a major snow storm that threatened his trip on to New York. Vic made it to New York but none of the other meeting participants did, and the meeting was cancelled. Vic traveled back to Montreal directly from New York and Doris went home from Virginia. You'd think this would have been a stressful time, doing someone else's home improvements while on vacation, worrying about a snow storm that was threatening the main purpose of the trip. But as always around Vic, it was pure relaxation and calm. Another 20 years in the future, as I neared retirement, Vic put on a major campaign for me to take up golf. I eventually did and enjoyed many happy moments with Vic on the La Cité golf course in Hawkesbury, with the added bonus that I had the opportunity to meet the many wonderful people he played golf with there. Vic always struck me as bigger than life. But so quiet. A friendly bear of a man. He was the senior manager on many iconic construction projects in Canada, and many major projects around the world. He had much wisdom and many stories. But you'd never benefit from this wisdom or hear these stories in a large crowded room, with Vic holding forth in a loud voice as the center of attention he could have been. No. If you were lucky, you'd benefit from his experience sitting quietly in a small room, over coffee at Tim Horton's, or in a golf cart rolling up the 6th fairway at La Cité into a stiff north wind in late fall. These are the memories I have of my brother-in-law, mon beau frère. I miss him and always will.
Several years ago Dody bumped into Bud at the grocery store. He had just left the farm and moved into Mont Roc in Hawkesbury. He was somewhat dejected and felt that life was on the way down. “Are you still playing golf” Dody asked, to which Bud replied: “Well I really don’t have anyone to play with.” “Give Ron a call. He plays with a group of guys at La Cité and I’m sure you’d be welcome to join them.” And so it was. Bud quickly usurped the position of “Elder Statesman” which JL was only too happy to relinquish. All credit to the club (in particular the late Kurt Hungerbuehler) for introducing the cart with the blue flag. This allowed people who had some difficulty walking to take the cart much closer to the green than would normally be otherwise permitted. As a result Bud was able to continue playing for two more seasons. We all took turns squiring him around, but special kudos to Bill Conrod who willingly drove him most often. They had the common thread of their grandsons playing hockey in the same league. There was one day when Bud tripped on the way up the stairs to the first tee and took a rather bad tumble into the flower bed. I won’t say he jumped up, but he did quickly recover. I noted a group of guys waiting to play after us and you could just see the looks of consternation on their faces. On leaving the tee (out of Bill and Bud’s earshot and aided by the presence of all three balls on the green) I said: “Don’t worry, we won’t hold you up” and of course we never saw them again. Bud was never one to talk about his career or his many accomplishments. He felt he was there to play golf and that nobody would be interested in any of this. However, if you prodded him enough, he’d modestly offer snippets of info about “The Big Owe” or the “Louis Hippolyte Lafontaine Tunnel” amongst other projects where he played a very senior role. Rest in Peace, good friend. I had an opportunity to host Vic and Doris at Netherdale and play bridge with them and my auntie Dorothy in Ottawa. Vic was a treasure of stories every time leaving me with many wonderful memories from such a small amount of time. I can only image the size of loss this is for all of you, my heart is with you. If I can be there for you in any way, I would be, in a heart beat. Love and respect, Beverly
