Obituary of Ian Bonnar Mitchell

Mitchell, Ian Bonnar Peacefully on Saturday August 27th, 2016 Ian Bonnar Mitchell of Hawkesbury, Ontario passed away after a valiant battle with cancer one day shy of his 65th birthday. Ian will be lovingly remembered by his wife Frances and his children, Liam (Kelly), Courtney (Paul), and stepdaughters Angela (Ben), Laura (Alexander), and Christina. Ian will also be fondly remembered by his four grandchildren Kaelan, Eamon, Raynah, and Philippa. Retiring from Air Canada after 32 years with the company, Ian then embarked on a 3 year sojourn as a manager for Island Inkjet. In 2006, Ian became an avid Geocacher (known to friends as Inkyfiller). Ian was also an enthusiastic traveler, birder, doting grandfather, and advocate for the South Nation Conservation Authority. His work pioneering Cache In, Trash Out events in Eastern Ontario has seen this event grow into an annual tradition, with hundreds of Geocachers gathering to participate. Ian will be remembered most for his sense of humor and smile, both of which remained intact until the end. A Celebration of Ian’s Life will be held on Friday September 2, 2016 at 2 pm at St James’ Anglican Church,642 Main Road, Hudson, Quebec - a community where Ian served as a Volunteer Firefighter for 10 years. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ian’s name to the South Nation Conservation Authority are welcomed. He was particularly passionate about their tree planting and land acquisition programs.
