Condolences
I first met Ian in 2010 when he was in Winnipeg and dropped by the 10th anniversary of geocaching event the MBGA was hosting. He was not the type to quietly walk in and sign a logbook to show he was there. Instead Ian practically burst in proudly boasting that he was going to be able to log not just one, but hopefully five 10-year celebration events that weekend in three different provinces! I already knew at that time that Bernhard and I would be moving to Ottawa soon, but it was not yet public knowledge. When we arrived in Ottawa that summer, we were greeted by Ian like a couple of old friends. He will truly be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Frances and family and friends,
I had the pleasure of meeting Ian when I arrived in scheduling in October 2000. What made it so easy to feel like I belonged immediately in the department was Ian's easy going personality. He was the perfect person to train me. Lots of patience and good humour. For lunch all of us in scheduling would sit around a large table in his/our office eating and sharing stories. I especially remember the laughing when Ian was telling us of his high school adventures, life in Hawkesbury, or stories about AC back in the crown corp days. Honestly I think he had all of us in stitches from laughing so hard. I remember thinking wow this is going to be great working with this fellow. Next thing I know he accepted a position in YYZ and started January 1st. Anyway that year I did get to taste his "famous" chilli and garlic bread at the annual Christmas bake sale that scheduling organized every year as a fundraiser.
Words cannot express the loss I'm sure you and your family must be going through. Please know that Ian was an amazing person who will be missed greatly by everyone who ever came into contact with him. I wish there were more like him in the world. It would be a better, happier world.
I can't recall ever not been at Air Canada and not been somewhere and crossed path with Ian. Myself started in the Power Plant division in 1969. My first memories of Ian were those of a fun guy, always good for a joke and his abilities to tell it with a East Indian accent were excellent. It wasn't till years later when we both worked for aircraft scheduling, routing and planning that Ian wasn't just funny but was a smart quick thinking man. I and Ian had the privilege to work in a department specifically staffed with "smart, quick thinking people". But, he had that lighter side, if you worked with him on a specific shift you knew there would be a laugh a joke if AC operation allowed it. We missed Ian when he was promoted to corporate scheduling as we all will miss Ian now.
I will always remember Ian for his cheerful ways and we so enjoyed working with him when he did a stint as a delivery person for The Review. He took great care and pride in his work and had such a great sense of humour. We laughed a lot when he came in late Tuesday evenings to collect his newspapers for the next day's early-morning delivery. It was always fun to connect with him to talk about his latest adventures in recent years. He will be missed and always remembered.
I first met Ian at Air Canada and we worked together there for a number of years. He was a very capable and proficient individual and I remember him as always having a great sense of humor and we would often share a good laugh over something silly or trivial and it made working with him that much more enjoyable. My sincere condolences go out to his family and friends. He will surely be missed!
Frances, my heart felt sympathy, no matter how prepared you are death is never expected or easy to deal with. Ian was a joy to work with. I will always carry good memories of him and how he was there with a helping hand when needed. My Dad died when he was 65 of cancer. Mom lived for another 25yrs. Live your life Frances and enjoy it as much as you can, Ian is watching over you and his extended family whom he loved dearly To ink stained fingers all. Katherine

Dear Frances and family, The passing of dear Ian has pressed on my heart more than I expected. He was such a loving and caring man who I always looked forward to seeing and hugging. I will always remember his smile and his genuine heart for his family, friends, and nature. I was praying for him on those final days, and for you, as you grieve. I am so sad to miss the Celebration of Life. We are traveling southwest for a family camping event. With lots of love and hugs -
