Obituary of Gertrude Steimer

Gertrude Steimer (née Gumpelmeier)

January 12, 1939 – December 5, 2024

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Gertrude Steimer, who passed away on December 5, 2024, at the Prescott Russell Residence in Hawkesbury, Ontario at 85 years old.   

Gertrude was born on January 12, 1939, in Polsing, Alkoven, Austria.

She was the beloved wife of the late Roland Herman Steimer.

She is lovingly remembered by her brother, sisters, and their families: the late Margarete Wögerbauer and her children Heinz, Renate, Anita, and Karin; Herta Eder and her children Gabi, Roman, and the late Pia; Hermine Füreder and her children Edith, Gerhard, Roland, Sonja, Helmut, Ulrike, Werner, Monika, Engelbert, and the late Klaus; and Helmut Gumpelmayr.

Gertrude also leaves behind her many cousins and their families. These include Peter and Nicole Steimer and their children; Heidi Steimer and Avrom Shtern and her children Carolyn Wright and Veronica Wright; Debbie and Steve Stafford and their children Nicole, Laura, and Amy; Michael Steimer and Anisia and their children Ion, Edward, and Scarlett; Verena Steimer and her children Tina, Ann, and Michael; and Philipp and Lisa Steimer.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers who supported Gertrude while she was at home in Vankleek Hill and later as she transitioned to nursing homes. Special thanks to the staff for their care and empathy at Heritage Lodge in Vankleek Hill, The Palace in Alexandria, and the Prescott Russell Residence in Hawkesbury for their compassionate care.    

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Gertrude Steimer to The Douglas Research Centre at McGill University, The Centre of Excellence for Understanding Alzheimer’s Disease. Contributions can be made at Fondationdouglas.qc.ca.

In accordance with Gertrude’s wishes, a graveside service will be held at St. Andrew’s East Protestant Cemetery. The date will be announced here once confirmed.
