Jackie, Jennie, Auntie Chick and Family, Please accept my warmest thoughts to each of you! My memories go back many years: As a youngster, I remember so vividly the many summer vacation times; when I would spend a few days at Auntie Hazel and Uncle Willie’s. How our Sunday always consisted of going to church in the morning, and again at night. I even remember the “money tree” Jackie had me plant – only to go back every year thinking there was going to be this “money tree”. I wonder where all that money has gone!! Another memory of course is when our family used to visit them on those many Saturdays when we lived near – and Aunt Hazel would always bring out the baked goods, she had obviously prepared in advance for our visit. She definitely knew how to bake!! Most of all, it was who she was a Christian person that spoke to me –I knew where she stood as a Christian and this spoke to me so much whenever in her presence, or reading her many letters. She never “preached” and I think that is the best quality that I can think of. She was just “Aunt Hazel”, and I’d like to think that is why we all love her so much. As a teenager we moved a distance away, and so our visits became less often, and mostly shared through the many letters I will always treasure. The most important memory of all has to be the Christian influence that through her, it must have followed me into my adulthood. On one visit, I remember she had a table of Christian Books – I have mine to this day – a little children’s book entitled “A Child’s Garden of Bible Verses” As adults now, we know Aunt Hazel is in a good place – but we hold on to those many memories that were just “Aunt Hazel”, and have certainly helped us to be who we are!
