Obituary of James Duffy

Duffy, James "Jimmy" It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of a proud Scotsman, Mr. James “Jimmy” Duffy on April 6, 2017. Jimmy had a long career in the Toronto film industry, as a member of IATSE #873. There, he rubbed shoulders with talented crew members and actors alike, never realizing that he might well have been the most colourful character of them all. Jim – the son of the late Annie (nee Houston) and John Duffy, of Motherwell, Scotland – leaves behind to grieve his twin Elizabeth (Betty) Fauteux of Hawkesbury, his sister Ella (Benson) of Woodstock, Ontario and many nieces and nephews. Jim is predeceased by his brothers and sisters John, Peter and Jenny (Janet McAleenan) from Scotland as well as Annie (Watson) Molly (Archibald), Rose (Hope) and Edward (Eddie) from Toronto. Jim will be buried in St-Alphonse Cemetery in Hawkesbury. His memory however, and his innate Scottish talent for telling a tale or breaking into song, will live on in those who knew him best and those able to recognize the kind-hearted soul beneath the sometimes gruff exterior. The last months of Jim’s life were spent at Michael Garron Hospital, where he received exceptional care from Doctors D. Mendelson, M. Hillmer, S. Sirna and R Ciccarelli, and the B3, J5 and G5health care teams. Jim’s family would like to express its eternal gratitude for the extraordinary kindness of individuals who surfaced, much like guardian angels, during the most challenging period of his life: neighbours Cathie and Dave, PC Cindy Greenlaw with Toronto Police Services Station 55, and Sheila Yeung of Toronto’s Crisis Outreach Services for Seniors (COSS). The thoughtful support you extended to a reclusive stranger showed how compassionate even the biggest cities can be when people stop to notice those around them.
