I met James when I was a kid out on the oil truck with my dad, Lorne, as he did his deliveries to farms and homes on his route. If it was a long stop I would burn off energy running between the rows of tall corn stalks. Mr. Nixon, as my parents insisted I call him, never seemed to mind. Or, maybe he just hid it well. My sympathies to all of James' family and friends.

I have many memories of James. I’d run unto him occasionally and we’d have a nice chat however one encounter will stay with me. I saw James at Foodland. He was having his lunch and I stopped to say hi. He told me that he’d just had some bad news so I sat down with him. His best friend, Dougie Barton had just died and he was so sad. We sat and talked for about 15 minutes. I didn’t think he should be by himself and I was happy to just be there for him. I’ve known James for about 40 years and always enjoyed chatting with him. He will be so missed.

I enjoyed so many of James' stories over the years, and of course, his music!

He was a natural talent and shared his music with everyone at so many events, dances, the fair etc. over the years.

I will miss our chats about local and national politics. He read The Review and the Glengarry News faithfully so there was always lots to discuss!

James will be greatly missed!

When I sit back, I can still hear the music of Jimmy Nixon....such a humble, trusting and talented gentleman. The music played by Jimmy had a 'Style" of its' own....it had sort of a 'Country music' twist to it. If you know what I mean. I used to dance to his music at the MacCrimmon Hall....... last Spring, when I was young!

Jimmy was one of a kind, and his style of music was enjoyed by so many of his family and friends. "Faded Love" was one of his often requested tunes. Often played at Anniversary Parties....not the most appropriate tune, I must admit. However, there were always many dancers who got up to dance but many just sat back and tapped their feet! A sign that his music pleased many people who followed him.

Yes, Jimmy loved his cows (and, I must admit that the view of the cows out grazing in the fields was lovely - James would have appreciated that). He also loved his life on the Farm - just a quiet day with his animals and open fields. He certainly will be missed by so many of his friends, family and....... even the odd stray animal.

When acting as emcee at the "MacLeod School of Fiddle Recital", Jimmy was always present and no doubt he enjoyed watching all these young fiddlers/musicians perform - many of them were his relatives and family. I always picked him out of the crowd - making comments - without his permission, of course! No doubt he was happy to see and hear that many of the younger people were carrying on with the love of the Scottish music. As most of us are aware, many of the students as well as the teachers, were his relatives. Fiddle and Piano were the popular instruments of the entertainment on those evenings!

RIP my dear friend - James (Jimmy, as I have always called him) you will be missed by your families - both the Nixon and MacLeod Families and, of course, your many friends. Hopefully, I might have one of Jimmy's tapes, CD's or such....listening to his music would be a great way to spend a memorable afternoon. No doubt you will be kept busy entertaining many in your new 'Home' - meeting up with your old musician friends ...with plenty to discuss. Remember to play "Faded Love" and...... "Out behind the Barn" for the cattle, which you loved and cared for dearly for so many years.

James, or Jesse Corn as we used to call him, a nick name Paul Toupin gave him while working for him in the 60's, was a great friend. So many friends my age, during our high school years, loved to follow James and tap our feet to the beat of his music at many social events in the area, and especially at the Bonnie Glen. James introduced us to Johnny Mooring, a three time Canadian fiddle champion from Shelbourne Nova Scotia .He spent much of his time with James in Eastern Ontario, and western Quebec, They played at various bars in the area with James accompanying him on the piano. As we got older we would follow them to St Zotique, and the Atlantic Hotel In Alexandria, only to mention a few. I left the area in 1973 not to return until 2006. One of my first stops on my return to the Hill was to visit James. We reminisced about all the great times we had. Johnny Mooring obviously came up during our talks and I asked James if he had any off Johnny's records. He reluctantly lent them to me to make CD's. A month later I returned them with a bunch of CD's for him. When I moved to L'Orignal James was my go to person for aged manure for my garden. One year I found him in the behind the barn dragging out a dead cow with tears in his eyes. He told me at that time it was like loosing a child.

He looked forward to my visit along with one of Carole's apple pies for his sweet tooth. We would sit on the tailgate of my truck and talk about music, the good times, and off course, politics and Liberal bashing. We'd leave with a shake of the hand and a promise to return for another visit. James was an honorable and proud and caring farmer and individual that I will never forget. I hope he now gets to spend time with Paul, and so many off his family and friends in heaven. RIP my friend!
