Phyllis Dawn (Huckins) Bennett
Phyllis Dawn (née Huckins) Bennett, wife of the late Garnett A. Bennett, passed away quietly at 96 years of age on Wednesday November 20, 2024 at the du Pavillon site of the Lachute Hospital with her three children, Margaret (Jerry), Garnett (Lisa) and John (Pam), by her side. She will be missed so much by her grandchildren; Lisa (Paul), Kristen, Stephanie (Matt), Greg (Tamara), Dylan, Bailey (Dan), Colton, Carly, and Grace, as well as her six great grandchildren; Andi, Bree, Riley, Jamie, Sklyar, and Robin.Dawn was the oldest child of Beryl Carson and Gerald Huckins. Dawn is survived by her sister Eva (Dave) and brother Bud (Joyce). She is predeceased by her brothers Lindsay (Marg) and Rupert (Helen), and sisters Kathleen and Barbara (Don).
Dawn became a teacher after graduation at Macdonald College and taught initially in the Eastern Townships. Some of the teaching assignments were in one-room schools. She met her future husband, Garnett Bennett, when she began teaching in Arundel. Later, when Garnett took a job in Montreal, she continued to teach mostly lower elementary grades with the Protestant School Board of Montreal.
Dawn was always involved with the United Church, both in Arundel and Montreal, belonging to the United Church Women association and the WI (Women’s Institute).
She enjoyed gardening at the farm in Arundel, much to the chagrin of those who had to cut the grass in the vicinity of the flowerbeds. Weather permitting, she was an almost daily swimmer in the Arundel area lakes. Crafting and water painting were also some of her favorite pastimes.
Dawn had many friends from coast to coast, as evidenced by the great number of Christmas cards she sent and received each year. Dawn touched many lives and will truly be missed.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Saturday, November 30, 2024 from 12 Noon to 1:pm at the Arundel United Church,12 rue du Village, Arundel, Quebec followed by a Funeral Service at 1 pm. Interment at the Arundel Cemetery followed by a reception at the church hall.

A Tree of Remembrance for Dawn will be planted at the McAlpine Forever Forest, Vankleek Hill.
