Obituary of Alfred Wilhelm Schwalb

Alfred Schwalb, of L'Orignal, passed away on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at the age of 90. He was the loving husband of Joyce Schwalb (née Ouellette). He was the proud father of Caroline (Allan Fox), James, and the late David. He will be deeply missed by his brother, Horst Schwalb.

He was a beloved "Opie" to James (Melissa), Kimberly, Lisa Marie, and a “Great-Opie” to Abigail and Emelia.

Alfred was known far and wide for his exceptional skills as a Volkswagen mechanic. There wasn’t an engine he couldn’t fix, and he thrived on the challenge of each new repair. His reputation for quality work meant that people from all over sought him out, sometimes arriving at his home and waiting patiently—often camping out—while he worked his magic and got them back on the road.

Outside of his mechanical talents, Alfred had a deep love for the outdoors. He cherished the peace that came with hunting caribou and elk or heading out on fishing trips. Whether on land or water, he embraced the beauty of nature and the thrill of the hunt, finding solace in these moments.

A private family service will take place. In memory of Alfred, donations to the Humane Society would be greatly appreciated. A Tree of Remembrance for Alfred will be planted in the McAlpine Forever Forest in Vankleek Hill.
