Obituary of Bates Campbell

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Bates Campbell on Thursday September 19, 2024, in Hawkesbury. He was the much loved son of the late Alvin and the late Maud (Bates) Campbell.

He was the beloved and devoted husband, as well as best friend, of Lyn (née Stewart).

He was a proud and cherished father to Heather (John Leedham), Christine (Mike Sauvé), and Trevor (Virginia Gomez de la Torre). He was a steadfast supporter of his children, he attended every sporting event, dance lesson, and endeavor they pursued, and was always there to offer his love and encouragement.

Bates was a deeply involved and loving grandfather, known for his unwavering support of his grandchildren's many activities. Whether in person or watching from his iPad when he couldn’t attend, he always made sure to cheer them on at every game, event, or performance. His grandchildren, Kaelan, Jared, Braden, Zachary, Chelsea, Sierra, Jordan, Vienna and Daniel, could always count on his enthusiastic presence and encouragement.

Bates will be deeply missed by his brother, Robert (Sharron). Predeceased by the late Reg (Brenda), and the late Nancy (late Leslie Murdoch), as well as his dear sister-in-law Ellen (late Robert Whyte). He was the son-in-law of the late Alwyn and the late Eileen Stewart. His loss will also be felt by his nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends who had the privilege of knowing him.

Bates shared many wonderful years camping with Lyn, his family and friends, traveling together in their fifth wheel. He will be greatly missed around the campfire by his camping friends.

Known for his kind and patient nature, Bates will be remembered as a gentle soul. Whether carrying Lyn’s bags on their shopping trips or sitting patiently on the bench with a smile, he embodied love and understanding in all aspects of life.

Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation at Hillcrest Funeral Home 151 Bond St, Vankleek Hill, Ontario, on Monday September 23, 2024 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Service will take place at Cassburn Church , 1780 Cassburn Rd. L’Orignal, on Tuesday September 24, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. A Celebration of Bates’s Life will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the Vankleek Hill Curling Club, 136 Bond St. Vankleek Hill.

The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at the Hawkesbury General Hospital, Palliative Care Wing for all their kindness and compassion. Please consider a donation in memory of Bates to The Hawkesbury General Hospital – Palliative Care Wing or the Canadian Cancer Society.
