Obituary of Margaret Ruth Newton

Margaret (Mason) Newton 1927-2024

Peacefully on Saturday, August 10th, 2024 in her 97th year, after a long and fulfilling life, grounded in family, friends, work and volunteerism. 

Born in Montreal, the youngest of four children to Scottish immigrants, David and Margaret (Fraser) Mason, a proud first generation Canadian of Scottish descent. A veteran of the first Quebec referendum and correctly predicted the outcome of the 2014 Scottish referendum. 

Dearly beloved wife of the late Leslie James Newton, dear mother of Margot (Brent) Peterson and James Leslie. Grandmother to Jessica, Annie and Charlotte. Predeceased by brothers and sisters-in-laws William (Mona), Stanley (Betty and Renata) and Douglas (Eleanor).

Family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service on Thursday August 15, 2024 at 11 am at St. Columba Presbyterian Church 20950 Laggan Glenelg Road, Kirk Hill, Ontario, where the family will be present to receive condolences from 10 am.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Vankleek Hill Food Bank Box 23, Vankleek Hill, Ontario K0B 1R0, would be much appreciated. 

To honour Margaret's memory, a Tree of Remembrance will be planted in the McAlpine Forever Forest in Vankleek Hill.
