Obituary of Carole Baylis

Carole Mae Baylis, born on December 7, 1937, in Ottawa to Ralph Baylis and Francine Ste-Marie, left an indelible mark on the lives she touched. As the first child in the family, her hard-headed stubborn streak became apparent, especially in contrast to her siblings Bobby, John, Gary, and Debbie. Little did her parents know that this trait would later prove beneficial in raising her own five children – Steven, David, Laurie-Ann, Ken, and Bryan.

Carole navigated the challenges of single motherhood with grace, often juggling up to five separate jobs during gruelling 18-hour days. Despite the trials, she was a remarkable and loving mother, always direct and truthful, even when her honesty wasn't always well-received. Her family, which continued to grow, now includes 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Carole lived her life authentically, unwavering in her commitment to her true direction. She found joy in both travel and family, leaving lasting impressions on everyone she encountered. An avid and gifted writer, she could encapsulate a lifetime in a simple turn of phrase, leaving her mark wherever she called home.

Her words, like ink marks on the pages of her life, will endure in the hearts and minds of those who were fortunate enough to be a part of her story. Carole passed away peacefully, surrounded by love, on Tuesday, February 27. An informal Family Memorial is set to take place during the weekend of May 24, 2024 celebrating the life of this incredible individual who was, above all, a wonderful mother. More details will follow.

A Tree of Remembrance will be planted in the McAlpine Forever Forest, Vankleek Hill. Funeral arrangements under the care of Hillcrest Funeral Home, 151 Bond St., Vankleek Hill, ON K0B 1R0, 613 678 2002.

In the mosaic of life, she remains "just one piece in a marvellous puzzle.”
