Obituary of Chris Anderson

It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Christine Anderson (née Reid) of Vankleek Hill on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at the Ottawa General Hospital, at the age of 67, following a courageous 4-year battle with lung disease. Predeceased by her parents David and Kathleen (Hudson) Reid. Loving wife and beloved partner of Neil Anderson. Proud and caring Mother of Julie (Mike Smith), David (Jennifer), Patricia (the late Ryan Hill), and Stephanie (Blake McDonell). Adored Grannie of Lyla, Kye, Hayden, Beckett, Rhys, Reilly, and Ryker. Dearly loved sister of Kim (Mike Love). Fond sister-in-law of Joy (James Snow) and Bryan Anderson (Stephanie). Sadly missed by her nephews, extended family and friends. 

Chris will be remembered for her fierce dedication to her family, her zest for life, her infectious smile and personality, her passion for food, and yes, in her down time, would enjoy an occasional glass of wine. She had a great love for travelling- whether on family vacations, visiting her children working abroad, going to see friends from college or travelling down south with her husband, Neil- especially to their favourite destination, Jamaica. And of course, creating fun and adventure for her grandkids was always important to bring smiles to everyone’s faces. 

Chris took on many positions and projects through the years, bestowing a positive impact on so many lives in the community. A beloved school bus owner and driver for PCPS and VCI students, Mrs. “A” created a spirited environment for the kids, particularly during holidays decorating her bus and gifting her famous cookies. She was an active member of the Cassburn United Church, known for her role as the “Kitchen Boss”, using her culinary expertise- she was the driving force behind many church and community events, including church suppers and Sunday Brunch at the VKH fair. This passion for cooking and baking also led to her building her own local catering business, where she was proud to offer delicious food- made with love. She was always sure to put special attention on her creative and meticulous presentation of her baking. 

When she wasn’t busy in the kitchen, Chris worked tirelessly on the family farm raising her other babies- the calves, while keeping the barn as clean and neat as possible. She also took great pride in maintaining her beautiful gardens and yard at home throughout the year. Chris had a profound impact on many lives and will be so greatly missed. 

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Chris’s Life on Thursday, February 1st, 2024 at the Vankleek Hill Curling Club, 136 Bond St, Vankleek Hill, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

A Tree of Remembrance for Chris will be planted in the McAlpine Forever Forest, Vankleek Hill.
