I took care of Rita. Very kind soul and always smiling. May she rest in peace. Condolences to the family.
I hope everyone has the chance to have a mama (grandma) like mine.
Today, my family is saying goodbye to our matriarch, Rita Ghey. And while I can’t be there in person, I wanted to share some memories and reflections I hold on to about my mama.
She was the family member I spent the most time with growing up and in my early adult years too. She helped raise my brothers and I, and she lived with my parents once my papa (grandpa) had passed on.
Some of my most fond memories of her are the simple little moments…
Enjoying a cup of English tea while she excitedly asked for updates on my “life in the city”.
The ear to ear smile she immediately wore the moment I walked in her door.
The way she would enthusiastically watch a “television programme” like Murder, She Wrote, and then give me a full rundown on the who’s who, and the what’s what.
The personal messages she took time and care to write in each and every birthday or Christmas card.
The sheer joy she found in being there for our moments, big and small. She was ALWAYS there.
And the limitless warm hugs that she gave with such intention.
But there was one specific thing that stood out to me about this beautiful woman:
While our papa was always so full of life, excited and driven, and pushed us to be our best, our mama was steady, nurturing, loving and accepting of us exactly as we were.
Acceptance. Never judgement.
She not only accepted us and everyone else for who we were. She embraced us and everyone she met, with open arms and showed each and every person they were worthy of love and celebration.
Mama lived her life filled with spirit, deep values, and an appreciation for the little moments. And after living a long 90 years, all I can say is thank you.
Thank you, for a beautiful life.
A life well lived in faith and family. Rita was someone it was hard to forget. I got to know Rita through her husband Peter where I too worked with at Canadair in Montreal. We were on the first committee of the Indo Pak Christian Association in 1966-- which was formed to connect with Christians who had immigrated from India and Pakistan and elswhere! It is here that my wife Joan got to meet Peter and Rita and subsequently some members of her family.like Ruth and Jacques. May her soul rest in peace. Joe and Joan Pinto.
Thr first time i noticed Rita was at St. Judes Parish in Hawkesbury. I was drawn to her immediately as i noticed her piety and reverence as she knelt in the Church with her head always bent in deep prayer. After Mass, i waited for her to finish her prayers and introduced myself to her. We connected immediately. A very short time after Rita and i started a Divine Mercy Cenacle at St. Judes along with our dear friend Barbara. I got to know her more and always felt the love of God in her presence and would seek her spiritual direction and trusted her spiritual wisdom. Rita left a mark in this world of the love and trust she had in God. She will be greatly missed but rest assured, as in this life and now in her passing, she will spend her eternity praying for all of us left behind. Our heartfelt condolences to her family and friends.
Rita was a very loving and kind soul and she will always hold a special place in my heart. When I was searching spiritually, she was suddenly there to help and I got to spend a wonderful summer with her, learning to become a Catholic. Thank you, Rita and I know that you are exactly where you are meant to be now...close to your Lord.
To the Ghey family, especially Frances, Gary, Brendan, Andria and Devin, please accept my most sincere condolences. I remember this beautiful lady and her great smile when she would come to the daycare to pick up the children. She always had a kind word and she radiated happiness. May all the special moments spent with her bring you comfort and courage.
A Tree of Remembrance was planted by Mark and Lisa Henderson and the staff of Hillcrest Funeral Home.
A wonderful human being . A beautiful soul . My condolences to you all .
Our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to her family, for the loss of wonderful Rita. I was privileged to have spent some time with her in prayer groups, in the church community and sometimes for a cup of tea. I thoroughly enjoyed our conversations and spending time with her always left me with a peaceful and joyful heart. Rest in God's eternal peace and love. You were a blessing to those you met. ❤
