Unfortunately, I just learned about this sad news this morning. John was one of those individuals who, once you met him, you did not forget. All through school his personality did not change. He was kind and generous to everyone. I remember his sense of humour and his laugh. He will be truly missed. My sincere sympathy to his family.

My sincere condolences to the Rainey family. JR was a great teacher who made learning fun. I had him for two years of electricity @ LRHS. I have very fond memories of those two years. He always had a joke or a story to tell. He inspired his students to be the best and pursue life goals. You will be missed. RIP JR.
Our sincere condolences for your loss. He was a great coach and inspiration to John at the beginning of his basketball days.
My deepest condolences to the Rainey family, John was a wonderful man, he had such a beautiful smile, kind soul and a gentle nature about him. Gone far too soon ❤️
John’s grand smile, patience, dedication, and sense of humour were such an asset in the schools where he taught! It was an honour having him as a colleague, and a friend! Condolences!

The Rainey family,
Our deepest and sincere sympathy for the loss of John.
May you find comfort in knowing that we care and are thinking of you.
RIP John.
My big condolences to the Rainey family: Eileen, Ian, Megan, Ashley. I have many fond memories of spending time with the Rainey family, at their house in VKH and at their cottage. On the weekends, John drove Ian and me around to fishing expeditions and other activities, and was always in good spirits, telling stories and imparting life wisdom with a healthy side of witty jokes. I remember in particular one blue Datsun pickup truck, and John used to drive it with his arm out the window, stopping to wave hello to friends in town. John had a zest for life and lived well. He always had many projects in the works around the house and yard: a testament to his imagination, of things to try, and what could be built. I miss a lot of things from those "good old days", and John Rainey will always be part of those memories.
Our sincere condolences go out to John's children, and to Eileen and their extended family. John was one of the nice guys.
My condolences to the family.
Gayle Brown

I was looking forward to hear you tell your stories that ONLY you can tell but that will not be. I had the opportunity to have known you while teaching at Vankleek Hill high school. Thanks for all the laughs that you brought to everyone’s life. I want to offer my sincere condolences to Eileen, Ian , Megan and Ashly for your terrible loss.
Sincere condolences to the family.
I am very saddened by the news of your passing John. Throughout all the time I knew you beginning in school days, you were always joyful. You made me and others feel welcome. You made me feel like I was someone worth being. You made everyone feel great, well, maybe not everyone. On a map you drew a line from Grenville to Luskville, and wrote ‘A 100 miles to Heaven’. That revealed the secret of someone close to me but it made me laugh, as all you antics also made my good friend laugh. You were the greatest, John. Blessings, Colin. My deepest sympathy to Eileen and the entire Rainey family.
My deepest condolences to Eileen and the entire Rainey family. I enjoy teaching with him at VCI and having him as a hockey teammate. It was a pleasure to be around him

We are sorry to hear of John's passing. Our deepest condolences to all the family.
Dear Eileen & Family, my heart goes out to you, at this difficult time. It is never easy to express oneself on the passing of our loved one.
John was my first childhood friend and was always there for me. We had so many good times together in our early childhood days. He always had a great smile and great sense of humor.
I had the chance to see him a few times and wished we had more visits. I am saddened as I was planning on calling him just a week or so ago. The last time we visited we had a good laugh over our childhood schooldays and antics.
I am going to miss my dear friend but will keep him close to my heart.
John may be gone but will never be forgotten. "Those we love don't go away, they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard but always near. Still loved, still missed, and held so dear!”
Eileen, may you hold tight to all your wonderful loving memories forever in your heart.
With deepest sympathy. Layden

John Rainey was more than a friend, he was my BEST friend. From 1957, when we started school together, up to his passing, we were buddies. So many memories flashing through my mind, every one of them a happy memory, just for having known him. Listening to his many stories and him listening to mine, and laughing at the silliest things. Countless ball games. Hours spent at Tim Horton's ,talking hockey and football. He was such a wonderful, insightful and generous person. I will always cherish his memory. See you on the other side, Bucko.
My Sincere condolences to the family and friends of John. I have great memories of John's story telling at hockey tournaments as well as during business interactions. He will be sadly missed by the whole community for sure. A great loss.

My sincere condolences to the family and friends, you left us with great V.C.I memories. Thank you for being the amazing teacher that you were.
Sad to hear this news. My condolences to the entire family. John was a tough but fair soccer coach in high school. I’ll always remember how he helped keep me from being suspended and kicked off the soccer team for some antics involving a “full moon” on the bus coming back from an away game. I can remember him trying so hard not to crack a smile while he and the principal were giving me my due. Joking aside, he was always quick to say hello and reminisce about the good ol days anytime I’d be lucky enough to bump into him long after I graduated and he had retired.
