Ewing, Barbara Howard
It is with great sadness that we announce that Barbara Howard Ewing, our dear mother, sister and grandmother passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 28 at Glengarry Memorial Hospital at the age of 95 years. Predeceased by her husband, William Ewing and sisters, Suzanne Venters and Valda Duncan. Beloved mother of William (Helen), Anne Milne (Peter), Roderick (Martha) and Peter (Maura) and grandmother of William (Nathan ), Heather ( Michael), Christopher, Rose and Thomas. Sister of Robert Howard of Houston Texas and aunt of Linda Howard, Judy Heckler and Heather Howard and of David Duncan and Kathleen Seminara and aunt of Heather Niderost and the late Ewing Attridge.
When she was four, Barbara's parents moved from England to Cornerbrook, Newfoundland where she spent her early childhood. As a teenager, she returned to England to attend .Malvern Girls' College , coming home to Newfoundland for the holidays on the paper boats. She came to Montreal as a young career woman in her early twenties where she met and married her husband, Bill. Their early years of marriage were spent in Vaudreuil and Montreal until they moved to Vankleek Hill in 1954 and subsequently to Innisdale Farm in Glengarry County.
Barbara was a brilliant story-teller and regaled family and friends of her childhood days in Newfoundland, her experiences in Montreal and later as a young bride and mother and wife. She enjoyed a good party and was the consummate hostess right until the end of her life. She was also a keen gardener with a special aptitude for growing delphiniums. She had a great interest in history, politics and kept up-to-date on the latest current affairs.
She was a faithful member for more than 60 years of Knox Presbyterian Church, Vankleek Hill where she was an Elder, a long-time member of the choir and a committed member of the Women's Missionary Society. Friends may visit at Hillcrest Funeral Home 151 Bond Street, Vankleek Hill, Ontario on Thursday July 2,2015 from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral Service will be held on Friday July 3,2015 at Knox Presbyterian Church 29 High Street, Vankleek Hill at 2 p.m. Interment Greenwood Cemetery, Vankleek Hill, Ontario.In memoriam donations to Knox Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, Women’s Missionary Society, Greenwood Cemetery Fund or the C.A.F.E Fund would be appreciated by the family.
