Obituary of William Carson

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, William (Bill) Holden Carson, who passed away peacefully at the Hawkesbury & District General Hospital on February 19th, 2023, at 99 years young. He was predeceased by his parents Percy and Jessie Carson (nee Berry), his loving wife Mary (nee Blake), his brother Jack (Lyn) Carson, his beautiful great granddaughter Piper Jean Chisholm and nephews Donnie (Colleen) and John (Susan).

Bill was the loving father of Brynn, Sandy (Keith Chisholm) and Bill (Brenda Healey) and the brother and life long best friend of Jean (Glen Culham).  He was the devoted Grampa Bill of Andrew (Jennifer), Krissy (Derek Duval), Brett (Jenna Lalonde), Will and Jennifer and the proud great grandfather of Quinton, Heaven, November, Rory, Keira, and Caleb.

He will be missed by his companion Nicole LeNy and her children Carolyn, Stephanie, and Leonard.

Bill will be fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews, namely Allan (Mira), Doug (Maureen), Barb (Linc), Bev (Mike), Dennis (Anne) and Brian (Sandra) as well as his great nieces and nephews, and many friends, both young and old.

Temagami always held a special place in his heart and just the mention of the place would bring a smile to his face.  He never tired of talking about the beauty of the area.  Over many summers, this was the place to gather, bringing together family and creating many special bonds and memories.  The Carson/Culham families have been vacationing in Temagami for 95 years.

Bill had said numerous times that he lived a great and fulfilling life and had absolutely no regrets.  He earned his wings during WW2 and trained on a Tiger Moth.  He spent numerous long weeks in Halifax waiting to be sent into action overseas but thankfully the war ended before that actually happened.  He attended Queen's University after the war and graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.  He even quarterbacked the football team in his first year.  Bill had a great career with Canadian Refractories, skied with family and friends until he wore out his skis (and his knees) and hung them up at 89 years old!  He loved to hunt and fish and talked fondly of his canoe trips with Mon Oncle in Temagami.  He was also a devoted Mason and Shriner.  When the day was wrapped up, he always enjoyed a glass or three of “swamp water”, his name for scotch.  His smile and laugh were one of a kind and will always be remembered, as will his thick white head of hair that had just as much life in it as he did.

A Celebration of  Bill's Life will take place at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall, Branch 472, 152 Nelson St E, Hawkesbury, on Monday, June 5, 2023 from 11:00 a.m to 2:00 p.m. with a sharing of memories at 11:30 a.m.  A private burial will be held in Timmins, Ontario where he will be reunited with his dear Mary.

A special THANK YOU to the staff at Heritage Lodge, the Hawkesbury & District General Hospital, The Ottawa Heart Institute and the Plastic Surgery Clinic, Civic Campus, for the incredible care and compassion that was shown for Bill.
