Obituary of Donnie Barton
Peacefully at the Ottawa Heart Institute on Wednesday, February 1st, 2023, with his wife and children by his side Donnie Barton passed away at the age of 57. Dear son of Allen and Barbara Barton. Loving husband for over 31 years to Cheri (nee Nichols). Proud and loving father of Laura (Adrian), Amber (Riley) and Keegan (Eve). Adored and fun-loving Gramps to Luka. Dearly loved brother of Faye (Scott), Jeffery (Brenda), Jamie (Valerie) and Allison (Leo). Fond son-in-law of Tony and Jean Nichols. Dear brother-in-law of Bryan Nichols (Cecilia) and Lynn Marsh (Shawn). He will be fondly remembered by his many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Don will be greatly missed by his family and friends. In the last few years, their daily phone conversations were a great comfort to him. He loved spending time with his children and his grandson. Donnie will always be remembered for his contagious smile and joking nature. He had a kind heart and loved to laugh and tell stories. Donnie always held a special place in his heart for Clydesdales, the farm and especially for anything Ford.
Farmer’s Lung is a tragic disease for a man who had such a strong work ethic and love for his farm and cows. Gradually losing his ability to work and eventually leaving the farm was devastating to him and to everyone who knew and loved him.
Don’s doctors, nurses and lung rehab team had so many kind words to say about him. Special thank you to Dr. Shawn Aaron and his assistant Leslie. Don was really looking forward to his upcoming lung transplant.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Donnie's Life at a place which was close to Donnie's heart and where many wonderful memories were made, the Vankleek Hill Fairgrounds, 92 Main Street West, Vankleek Hill, Ontario on Thursday, February 9, 2023 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., with a sharing of memories at 2 p.m.
