My mother used to tell me stories about Courtney and "Opa" from when she was a baby. She was a little obsessed with buttons and zippers. One very hot day, his shirt was partially unbuttoned. She was very young and spotted it from far. She quietly went over and buttoned them right to the top. He didn't say a word. He unbuttoned a few buttons when she was left but she spotted the buttons again and walked over, didn't say a word, just buttoned them right to the top. He was very patient with her.
I am so sorry to hear this news. I have fond memories of Karl from my early days at Farinon. To tell the truth, I was terrified of him when I first met him - but soon discovered that behind the gruff exterior was a kind man with a wonderful sense of humor.
