My dearest sympathies go out to Grants Family. I just recently found out today march 13th 2015 that Grant had passed away. I picked up Grants milk for 2 years and would look foward to our hourly long conversations. Just to let you know Grant, I stopped in today at your place to pick up your milk and wondered what the heck was going on. What no milk!!! I wondered what was going on??? So I figured heck I guess he finally decided to give up dairy farming. So I went to your house to see you and maybe have a conversation about, well who knows!!! No answer so i figured you might be gone. When I got to Jim's place i said where did Grant go, did he quite milking. He then told me what happened and couldn't believe what had happened. Grant I will miss every conversation we had and again my dearest sympathies go out to your family.
I was devastated to hear of Grants passing. My heart goes out to you all - Mom Hepburn, Scott and family, Ian and my beloved friend Jen and family. I have so many fond memories of Grant. Always a smile and a helping hand. Such a kind and gentle man. I fondly remember him taking me flying years ago, acting as bridesmaid to his groomsman and he was always there to drive out to the highway and bring me into the farm. This city girl never did figure out the directions and he laughed and shook his head every time. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. Sue
Our hearts go out to you, Shirley and Ian, Scott and Jennifer and all your families. and to those close to Grant who are grieving. We join the community in tribute to a large soul.
Sincerest condolences to the Hepburn family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this very difficult time.
In the course of our short lives we are fortunate to meet one or two extraordinary persons . I was lucky enough to call one of these my friend I will miss Grant forever

To Icant,Skunk and Jennybun, and their families : I am saddened to hear of Grant's passing. I know you will all miss him, and the loss of someone like Grant leaves a painful hole in one's heart. Some consolation may be had from the many happy memories of dear old Rosemere, and of growing up beside the five Hepburn kids. Sliding down the hill in the winter. Fireworks in the sand-pit. Making houses and roads there. Our forts in the bush by my house that we built with elm-bark. Our own personal trees we climbed. Throwing maple keys off the veranda roof again and again. Hold these memories in your hearts, and he will never be truely gone. Love always, Heffalump
We wish to express our sincere sympathy to the Hepburn Family in the loss of Grant. His contributions to the Vankleek Hill Agricultural Society as well as other Community Organizations will be greatly missed. Our thoughts are with you at this sad time.
Our toughts and prayers for Ian and his family.
Our deepest sympathy to the family, friends and to Clare. Our prayers and thoughts are with all of you during this difficult time.
For more than a decade Grant and Claire shared their hopes and dreams, frustrations and successes with each other. They were soul mates. His passing is a profound loss to anyone who had the good fortune of meeting him. We can't imagine the hole it's left in Claire's life. Our wish is that circumstances allow this period of Claire's life be bearable and that the pain will be replaced in time with happy memories. It was an honour and pleasure to know him.
Ian and Amanda Wallace
It is so hard to believe and incredibly sad to hear the tragic news about Grant. You are such a wonderful family, which makes it even harder to understand that you have to bear this, but I wish you all much strength and love.
Dear Hepburn family, Having moved away, the face book news of Grant's death came as a big shock. I so feel for you, and the enormous hole his death creates in your family, the farming community and all of VKH. I pray for your and his peace -and that your pain may be bearable through the many arms, words and kindnesses that will no doubt be around you in these days. Our lives are so fragile, but may you find how the bond of Love is everlasting. I am deeply grateful to Grant's commitment to organic farming, ongoing learning and the safekeeping of the natural environment.Thank you, Grant. Blessings, Elisabeth
We want to offer our sympathy to the HEPBURN family. from Diane Carrière, and all the family of Clarisse and Richard Carrière (of VKH)
We were so very sorry to hear this news. Grant was a great neighbour that you could always count on. He will be missed in our farming community and as part of the Vankleek Hill community. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this sad time.
Grant & I have worked on so many projects together. It's hard to find out that he won't be around anymore. He use to call me "old man" even thou he was 8 months younger. Grant had changed the lives of so many peoples, he shall be missed. Even after working long hours on the farm, he would always find time for helping family, friends, and his community. Nobody can replace him. He was a real giver. It's hard to say "goodbye". To Clare and Grant's family, our deepest sympathy. Gilbert & Celine
To all of the Hepburn family we would like to extend our deepest sympathy. Grant was a very good friend and we will miss him terribly9. Our thoughts are with you at this difficult time. Brian and Nancy Bennett

I met Grant through my husband Karl. They were working together in the provincial park one winter. My husband told me... "Now there's a man I can have a real conversation with." ... and that was the begining of a beautiful friendship. Grant took me up in his plane and let me feel the freedom of the sky. I will always remember that beautiful sunny day. But when I think of Grant, it's his laughter and his smile that I will always remember. My heart and prayers goes to Clare and Grant's family in this very difficult time.

I can still hear your little laugh Grant. I am terribly saddened; to loose Grant is loosing a part of our little KCAT family. To all the Hepburn Family my heart aches with yours. Truly Grant was a great community volunteer & leader. A wonderful friend for many years. So sorry Claire but glad you became part of Grants life for a while and I will keep you especially in my thoughts. Love Chris
We have great memories of Grant as a organic farmer always very optimistic, never short of ideas and always fully involved. We will always think of him, The Gentle Giant, with a big smile, little plane and his gentle manors. His interest in others . We hope that he knew the Lord Jesus to be sure of a wonderful life ever after . Psalm 23.
The Hepburn family, Words seem inadequate to express the sadness we feel about Grant’s death. May your heart and soul find peace and comfort.
I am shocked and heartbroken over the news of Grant's passing. My thoughts and prayers are with the Hepburn family.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Grant. Despite the fact that we were not very close to Grant, we were very impressed by his talent as a handy man always willing to help. Our heart goes out to the Hepburn family at this difficult time. John & Louise
Knowing Grant for most of my life, he never seemed to change. Grant was always a happy go lucky caring person, who cared for others before himself. He also had a friendly smile and a kind word for everyone.
When I joined the Vankleek Fair Board a few years back. I had the pleasure of working with Grant. He always seemed to have the upper hand, he was always the one with the most ideas, and knew more about our grounds and buildings and situations than most of us. When I needed anything Grant was just a call away and he would drop what he was doing and was there to help in a flash.
I remember one day calling Grant and telling him Grant I need lights in the Green Tent right away, cause there was a party and we take the light bulbs out every year when closing up the grounds. He said I will be right up, sure enough ten minutes here he was. Do you have a ladder Willa, I looked, Grant cant find one..Just a minute Willa, turned around here is Grant in his truck driving it into the green tent, parked it, grab something jumped up on it, up on to the roof of his truck, don't need no ladder Willa..I had to laugh because while he was doing all this jumping his foot went right through the back tail light. Don't worry, I will fix that later...
Grant always had time for people and always shared great advise. He helped so many young students in our community to get hours for their co-op courses, not too many kids in our Community that did not know who Grant Hepburn was. Grant was always there to help whoever, whenever.
There will be a empty chair at our meetings without you in it, and not hearing you words of advise, but we all know Grant, you will be in all our hearts, and you will never be forgotten. You have been a huge part of all of us in our community Grant and we will miss you more than words could ever say.
Sometimes we wonder why life has to be unfair, but I can hear you say...I want to leave you with something, something better than words or sound. Look for me in the people I have known and loved
The hearts you've touched Grant will never lose the feeling of love.
Always Willa
Grant had an incredible spirit that seemed to light up a room and a meeting just by participating. He embodied the true pioneering spirit of organic farming and he did this with the purest of intentions of making the world a better place to live. Grant believed in sustainable farming and protection of the environment for today and tomorrow. Grant had many positive ideas to help our cooperative move forward and try new things because it was the right thing to do. Grant will be missed as a wonderful person and as a suportive business partner.
Don Rees, CEO; Organic Meadow
What can you say about a man you have known for 40 years? We have shared his ups and downs and laughed and cried with him. For 40 years we have gotten together as a group to share and keep up with our life's many changes. He was a hard worker, devoted to Agriculture and his Family and his Community. He was always smiling, even when he was down. He was deeply saddened by the death of his sister Laura and his Dad. We never knew his sister but through Grant's eyes we felt his loss. He introduced us to Claire - his soul mate. We treasure that introduction and the annual meal we shared the past few years with her and Grant in Vankleek Hill. Grant has been a big part of our KCAT family for a very long time and we will miss him so very much. It seems so unfair that his life should be taken this way.
Our thoughts are with his family that he loved so much.
We will miss his friendship, his warm and inviting smile and boundless energy. So long good friend! We love you and will miss you.

My husband Jacques is one of Grants buddies from college , they were a group known to everyone as the Crazy Eights . Every year since graduating we have met up once or twice a year and still going after 39 years , last year we all met up at Fay Allens B and B , what a fun time we all had. Our thoughts go out to Clare and all the family
We first met Grant 11 yrs. ago, when my sister Claire fell in love with him. We liked him immediately. Since then, we have shared many family birthdays on Claire's big front porch, went skiiing and hiking with Grant and Claire and many other excursions.
Grant was always interested in people, world events and loved having a good conversation. He was proud of his organic farming and put a lot of hard work into it.He worked hard at the Agricultural Fair in August and any time we attended with Claire, we barely saw him because he was dashing around, making sure everything was right,
He had a big smile, quiet voice and good sense of humour. As my husband John says, "Grant was a stand-up guy", What you saw was what you got. We miss him terribly. Cathy, John & Keith Davis
I first met Grant when he transitioned his herd to Organic production in 2008. At the time, I was the Member Relations Manager at Organic Meadow and I remembered being infected by his passion and enthusiasm for ecological production, the cooperative and his community. He always, always had a big smile and his blue eyes twinkled with zest for life. He was always calling me with ideas, and offering to volunteer his time to benefit the co - op. He was selfless and seemed to have boundless energy to devote to causes he held near and dear to his heart. This day seems a little bit darker knowing Grant is not with us anymore. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and Clare from Perry and I in Nova Scotia. I wish we could be there to pay our respects in person but we will certainly be there in spirit.
