I remember going to the lumber yard with my dad, and being taught how a good family sticks together and works together through the tough times.

Ron and Jane were always great to us and as I grew older I would never go to another lumber yard, because of the way we were always treated.

Ron was always happy to see my sons and I come to the lumber yard to buy a few things, and always asked us how things were, and often asked how my dad was doing.

We have lost a great man.

I am deeply saddened to hear the news. My deep sympathies to the family, to Jane and son, who I met several times at the business. I am Bill Smith, formerly with Royal Trust where I met Ron in the '70's. Ron was the greatest gentleman. Calm in all storms, literally, as he drove through the Winters to work in Montreal. Calm in this work at RT, the technical work of Trust Administration and Investment Accounts. I enjoyed so much stopping in to see Ron on my way to see Linda McDonald in Alexandria. I live in Deux Montagnes, QC. He gave me beautiful calendars, full of country and farm scenes which I passed on to Linda McDonald, (husband Keith passed) who owned a farm just South of Vanleek Hill. Linda loved those calendars as they reminded her of decades at the farm. She called me about Ron today, from her home in Alexandria. I passed on the news to another Royal Trust worker, Mike Matheson. I was thinking about seeing Ron just a couple weeks ago, stopping for my seasonal visit with Linda. My thoughts are with you during this time.

I first met Ron in the early 70's when he worked at The Royal Trust Company Montreal Quebec in the Personal Trust Dept in Group 22. .I could not believe he drove to Montreal to work and would arrive even on the worst winter days at 7am when most employees could not make-amazing!

..Subsequently I kept in touch with him when he moved to Ottawa only by phone and for business. . I again met him in Hawksberry when I was going out with a local girl called Margaret McCarthy living on 5th line road ?..

When he "retired" from Royal Trust Ottawa and opened his lumber yard we kind of loss touch but I knew of him
