Obituary of Maureen Jean Cass

Peacefully on Sunday, April 21, 2024, in her 87th year. Beloved wife of Cecil for 69 years. Loving mother of Wayne, Audrey Dumoulin (Keith Stacey), Gayle Rutherford (Wayne), Devon (Crystal Grapes), and the late Shawn. Treasured grandmother of Julie (Patrick), Nathan (Sarah-Jane), Nikki, Melody, Jeremy, Adelle, Sloan, Jesse, Shawna, and great-grandmother to Lily, Caleb and Liam. Dear sister of Murray Allen (Shirley) and predeceased by John Allen (Ruth). Predeceased by her mother Viva (Johnston), her father Percy and her-in-laws Frances (Newton), Wilfred Cass and brother-in-law Leslie Cass. 

Maureen was deeply passionate about gardening, dedicated to farming, and had a profound love for animals, particularly her cows and horses. She devoted many hours to volunteer work at Cassburn United Church.

Relatives and friends may pay their respects at Hillcrest Funeral Home, 151 Bond Street, Vankleek Hill, on Friday, April 26, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at Cassburn United Church located at 1790 Cassburn Road, L'Orignal, with visitation at Cassburn Church from 10:00 a.m. til the time of  service at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of traditional floral tributes, those wishing to honour Maureen's memory are encouraged to contribute to the Prescott and Russell Residence Foundation’s “Lift Me Up! Campaign", PO Box 184 Hawkesbury, Ontario K6A 2R8 or Cassburn United Church, c/o Anne Steele, 2022 Cassburn Road, L'Orignal, ON K0B 1K0. 

A Tree of Remembrance will be planted in the McAlpine Forever Forest in Vankleek Hill.
