Obituary of John Joseph Blonsky

Peacefully, surrounded by his family, John Joseph Blonsky passed on Saturday, October 4, 2025, in his 85th year.

Predeceased by his parents, Katherine Bazusky and Stanley Blonsky; beloved brother to Daniel “Danny” Blonsky and Gary Blonsky (Helen Chaumont); proud father of Kelly Blonsky (Nick Mulder), the late Geoff Blonsky, Olivia Sparks (David Sparks), and Derek Blonsky; and a supportive uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was a caring grandfather to numerous grandchildren. John is also survived by his former wife and mother of his children, Joanne McRae (Matthew Stevens).

Originally from St. Sophie, Quebec, John studied economics at Loyola College in Montreal before settling in Vankleek Hill, Ontario, where he spent most of his adult life. He was hired as a manager for SunWheels Inc., a bicycle rim franchise in Hawkesbury, Ontario. John was always proud of this chapter in his life and loved to share stories of his travels and business ventures during his time at SunWheels.

In retirement, John remained a familiar presence in the Vankleek Hill community, operating his one-man taxi service, helping locals run errands, and working part-time delivering for the former Lavoie’s/McRae’s Place Restaurants.

After selling his longtime home—fittingly located on Home Ave.—John moved first to Heritage Lodge in Vankleek Hill and later to Perth Community Care Centre (PCCC) in Perth, Ontario. The family extends heartfelt thanks to PCCC for the tremendous care John received during his time there.

A Celebration of Life will be held on December 5^th, 2025 from 12:00–2:00 p.m. at the Maitland Education & Recreation Centre (120 E McLean Blvd, Maitland, ON). In accordance with John’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral or interment.

In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory to the Alzheimer Society would be greatly appreciated.
