Obituary of Harold Huntley MacMillan

Harold MacMillan originally of Lochiel, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 27th, 2025 at the age of 96.

Loving father to Robert (Elaine), Ewen (Dale) and Allen (Carmela), cherished grandfather to Meghan, Ian, Callum, Morag, Conall, Dexter, Tavis, Blake and Lauren and the beloved great grandfather to Hailey and Addison. Harold will be deeply missed by his many nieces, nephews, family and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Ruth Byers, his brother Ralph (late Allison) and his parents Clarence and Edna MacMillan.

Friends and family are invited to Hillcrest Funeral Home on Friday September 5th, 2025 from 2 p.m. to 4 pm and from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. A service will take place at Kirkhill United Church, 21122 County Rd 24. Dalkeith ON, on Saturday September 6th at 11 a.m. The family will be present at 10:00 a.m.

Harold was known for his love of family and community.  He volunteered, supporting different groups, including the Clan MacMillan, Women’s Institute, United Church and Meals on Wheels. He also was an integral part in the management of the Hawkesbury Pipe Band and was a school board trustee. But he is likely known best for his love of history, Celtic music and genealogy. He would receive correspondence, and calls from all over, requesting assistance to connect the dots for family trees.  His sense of humour, sense of purpose and gentle heart will be remembered always.

For those who wish, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Glengarry Archives.

A tree of remembrance will be planted in Vankleek Hill's McAlpine Forever Forest in memory of Harold.
