Obituary of Jan Louise Norris

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jan Norris, who died peacefully on June 27, 2025, at the age of 66. Jan was surrounded by her loving family at the Hawkesbury General Hospital after a very brief stay, having spent her final months exactly where she wanted to be — at home, enjoying time with her children and grandchildren.

Jan was the beloved wife and best friend of Rick Norris, with whom she shared 39 years of marriage. They were each other’s rock — true partners through every high and low. Rick’s unwavering devotion, especially throughout her illness, brought her deep comfort and strength. Together, they shared a life built on friendship, laughter, and fierce loyalty.

A proud and loving mother, Jan leaves behind her two sons: Ricky (Leigh-Anne Barton) and Danny (Marie-Eve Norris), whom she adored and supported endlessly. She would often say that her greatest accomplishment was being their mom — proud of Ricky’s kindness and the father he’s become, and of Danny’s strength and courage. Jan was overjoyed to be a grandmother and embraced every moment spent with Ezra, Lennon, and her newest delight, her first granddaughter, Sloane.

She is predeceased by her brother Robroy Robinz (Jillian) and will be lovingly remembered by her twin brother James (Nathalie), her brother Edward, her sister Jackie (John), her sisters- and brothers-in-law, and her many nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed by her dear friend Lise Connell, who was like a sister, and by the many friends whose lives she touched with her love, laughter, and loyalty — especially her “Any Day Cocktail Sexy Bitches Gang.” She will also be missed by her loyal four-legged companions, Jake and Gollum, who were always by her side.

Jan was a force to be reckoned with — full of life, opinions, laughter, and love. She loved to have a good time and made sure everyone around her felt included and welcome. If she cared about you, she cared about everyone you loved too. Her home was a hub of warmth and connection, with her kitchen table always open to friends and family. But as much as she loved hosting, she loved being a guest — some of her favourite memories were made around the tables of Herb’s, Nicko’s, and Mon Village, to name just a few. She was also an avid reader, often getting lost in a good book — Stephen King was her favourite, and she never missed a new release.

Family was the cornerstone of everything Jan did, and time spent with loved ones was what she cherished most. She loved the winter and was happiest out snowmobiling or preparing for her favourite time of year — Christmas — from her fully decked-out home to her joy in bringing everyone together. Halloween came in as a close second — you never knew what costume she might appear in at your door.

In memory of Jan, donations to Cystic Fibrosis Canada are appreciated in lieu of flowers.

Jan lived her life with heart, a fierce love for those closest to her, and a spirit that will never be forgotten. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, July 4, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Vankleek Hill Fairgrounds, with sharing of memories beginning at 1:30 p.m. All are welcome to join the family in honouring and remembering her remarkable life. A Tree of Remembrance will be planted in Jan’s honour in the McAlpine Forever Forest, Vankleek Hill.
