Betty Wood–McElligott

April 11,1946 - April 11, 2025

With heavy hearts, the family announces that Betty Wood–McElligott of Hawkesbury passed away unexpectedly on her 79th birthday, Friday, April 11, 2025.

Betty was the beloved wife and best friend of Robert McElligott, with whom she shared many years of love, laughter, and unwavering companionship. She was a devoted and loving mother to her two sons, Trevor Todd and Kevin Todd (Sheila), and a proud and caring stepmother to Kim McElligott (Marc Vachon) and Tracy McElligott (Mark Paré).

She will be forever cherished by her grandchildren: Emma, Alex, Lee-Anne, Sophia, and Justin, who brought light and joy into her life. Betty was a deeply loved sister to Joyce Oswick (Alvin) and is predeceased by her brother Donald Wood (Donna) and her sister Dorothy Wickenheiser (Bert).

Betty’s warmth, kindness, and generosity touched everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. She was a devoted member of St. John’s Anglican Church, where she found deep spiritual connection and fellowship. As a longtime member of the Anglican Church Women (ACW), Betty gave selflessly of her time and energy to support others and her community, always with grace and compassion.

She found joy in nature, especially being near the water—whether swimming in a pool, floating in Lake Louisa, or walking along the ocean shore in Florida. She loved to read, cook, and spend quiet moments outdoors.

Funeral arrangements to be confirmed.

In memory of Betty, donations to the PKD Foundation of Canada would be appreciated—a cause close to her heart. 

A Tree of Remembrance for Betty will be planted in the McAlpine Forever Forest in Vankleek Hill.
