No matter where you are in your journey of healing, every step of the journey has its challenges– the pain and yearning, the fear, the frustration, the tears, the confusion and the stress, but at the end of the day, we hope to arrive at acceptance and yes, joy as we discover hope for peace and serenity in our lifetime.
The “Healing Through Grief" counselling group at Hillcrest Funeral Home is a safe place for participants to be open and vulnerable in sharing their experiences (if they so choose), to listen to and support others, to express empathy, and to allow themselves to be exactly where they are in the present moment. The group format will be comprised of a combination of open sharing and discussion, along with a variety of guided exercises including meditations and mindfulness exercises, healing old wounds, fostering self-compassion, and learning new self-care coping strategies. Participants play an active role in their healing journey and the goal of the group is for participants to feel supported, empowered, and provided with a safe space in which to honor their loved ones and themselves.
Groups will be facilitated by Jessica Courville, a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario and a Canadian Certified Counsellor with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. Jessica graduated from the University of Ottawa in 2016 with a Master’s in Counselling Psychology, and since then has been working with a variety of clients who experience anxiety, depression, chronic stress, trauma, grief, or who have relationship issues, suffer from addictions, gender and sexuality issues, and other mental health conditions. Jessica has formal training in Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, and is clinically supervised by Dr. Shari Mayman, C. Psych.

“Empathy has no script. There is no right way or wrong way to do it. It’s simply listening, holding space, withholding judgment, emotionally connecting, and communicating that incredibly healing message of ‘You’re not alone.’”
– Brené Brown
